How Kybella® Works
Personalized Consultation
At Aloha Med Spa, every Kybella® journey starts with a tailored consultation. Our experienced injectors evaluate the area beneath your chin, discuss your aesthetic goals, and develop a custom treatment plan to help contour and define your jawline.
Precision Injection Process
Kybella® is a prescription injectable that targets and dissolves stubborn fat under the chin. Using a grid-like injection pattern, your provider delivers small doses of deoxycholic acid into the submental area. Each session takes about 15–20 minutes, and the number of injections varies depending on your unique anatomy.
Gradual Results & Ongoing Sessions
Fat cells are broken down and naturally eliminated by the body over time. You’ll begin to see visible improvements in profile definition after a few sessions. Most clients need 2 to 4 treatments, spaced at least 1 month apart — with up to 6 treatments total if needed.
Kybella - Fat Dissolving
If you are anxious or worried about your procedure, feel free to talk to the healthcare practitioner who will perform your procedure. Our practitioners are highly experienced and may have suggestions that will help. Ask about the addition of Pro-Nox to your appointment.

- Avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, St. John’s Wort, oral Vitamin E, and NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) for at least 24 hours prior to your treatment. These can increase the risk of bruising, swelling, or bleeding at the injection sites.
- Alcohol should also be avoided for 24 hours before your treatment to help minimize bruising.
- Plan accordingly — moderate to significant swelling is normal after Kybella. You may want to avoid major events or photo sessions for at least 3–7 days post-treatment.
- Apply Arnica gel or take Arnica tablets starting 1-2 days before your appointment to help reduce bruising and inflammation. Bromelain supplements (found in pineapple) may also help.
- Stay hydrated and eat a light meal before your appointment to avoid feeling lightheaded.
- If you're taking blood thinners or anti-coagulants (such as Warfarin, Coumadin, Heparin, Plavix, etc.), consult with your provider prior to your appointment.
- If you are prone to cold sores, please notify your provider. You may be prescribed antiviral medication prior to treatment.

- Swelling is expected and can be significant, especially in the first 3–5 days. This is a normal response and part of the fat breakdown and healing process.
- Bruising, tenderness, firmness, and numbness are also common side effects and can last several days to a few weeks.
- Apply cold compresses for 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off during the first 24–48 hours to help minimize swelling and discomfort.
- Avoid touching, massaging, or applying pressure to the treated area unless instructed otherwise by your provider.
- Sleep with your head elevated (use 2 pillows) for the first 2–3 nights to help reduce swelling.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, heat exposure (hot tubs, saunas), and alcohol for 24–48 hours post-treatment as these can increase swelling and bruising.
- Do not schedule any facials, laser treatments, or massages to the treated area for at least 2 weeks after your Kybella session.
- Be patient — full results develop gradually over 4–6 weeks as your body breaks down and eliminates the targeted fat cells.
- If you experience difficulty swallowing, facial muscle weakness, or any concerning side effects, contact your provider immediately.
